POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH SUPERVISOR
CORE PURPOSE
Review and assess research proposals, supervise Postgraduate students undertaking the research report (Honours) or dissertation (Masters) and upon completion, submit an assessment report.
CORE FUNCTIONS:
• Assist students in refining the research topic to ensure feasibility of the study
• Develop and maintain a good working relationship with students and Research Coordinators
• Provide guidance to students on all aspects of research including ethical considerations and plagiarism
• Provide advice on the planning and structure of the research report or dissertation in alignment with MANCOSA guidelines
• Maintain regular supervisory contact through scheduled meetings, telephonic consults or emails
• Request regular written work and return submitted work timeously
• Participate in supervisor induction and training programmes
• Assess the completed research report or dissertation prior to submission to the Postgraduate Research Department
• Assist students with implementing changes resulting from the internal review of work submitted
HONOURS SUPERVISION
QUALIFICATIONS
• A relevant Master’s degree (minimum requirement)
(Relevant qualifications include a focus on Supply Chain Management, Human Resources and/or Leadership & Management in Education)
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
• Basic supervision experience (Masters supervision or successful Honours research supervision)
• Minimum of 65% on the dissertation and research course work (waived for PhD holders)
• At least 3 years’ work experience
• Academic writing record (i.e. articles, preferably)
MASTERS SUPERVISION
QUALIFICATIONS
• A relevant Master’s degree (minimum requirement)
(Relevant qualifications include a focus on Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Resources and/or Leadership & Management in Education)
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
• Intermediate supervision experience (Doctorate or successful Masters research supervision)

• At least 5 years’ work experience
• Understanding of academic research publishing
• Academic writing record (i.e. articles, preferably)
