The Western Cape Economic Development Partnership, known as the EDP, is an independent, not-for-profit, public benefit company that works with a range of partners to improve the performance of the Cape Town and Western Cape socio-economic development system.

We help leaders and institutions from different sectors – public, private, civil society, education and academia – to work together, to grow the local, metropolitan and regional economy, and to address complex system challenges.

Based in Cape Town, the EDP seeks to fill the following vacancies:

General Programme Lead
Sustainable Programme Lead
Learning and Networking Development Programme Lead

The Programme Leads will be accountable for designing, facilitating and monitoring tailored partnering solutions within identified issues and/or areas as per the key EDP programmes and projects, in support of the EDP Business Plan. In undertaking these roles, the Programme Leads operationally implement the partnering mandate of the EDP, driving the socio-economic transition processes in the Western Cape Region and nationally.

The Programme Leads must have the following key skills and knowledge:

• Demonstrated ability to build sustainable partnerships across a variety of stakeholders Knowledge of the Western Cape and Broader South African and Global Economic Development Trends Ability to develop a large network of mobile resources and partnerships to harness the required levels of skill, innovation and resources to meet a broad mandate
• Skills in leading and managing a small, but specialised team
• Excellent and adaptive project management skills to apply to complex and diverse projects
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, legal, compliance and risk management requirements
• Ability to perform and achieve set goals and outcomes in an environment with ambiguous operational parameters, complexities and broad challenges
• Collaborative leadership skills and qualities
• Negotiation skills under difficult circumstances
• The ability to strategically plan and design projects and programmes
• The ability to think conceptually, and introduce and explain concepts effectively
• Strong relationship building skills
Key Performance Areas include:
• Planning and designing specific project approaches in line with collaborative partnering methodology and outputs and requirements of the EDP Business Plan
• Planning and designing specific project approaches in line with collaborative partnering methodology and outputs and requirements of the EDP Business Plan
• Managing the broader project team to implement key programmes and projects, focused on building, measuring, teaching and supporting collaborative behaviour across the Western Cape economy, and the National economy
• Implementing key systems, structures, approaches and practices within the EDP operations to support project implementation and performance
• Developing an effective and resourceful talent pool through strategic partnerships and relationships across the WC, South Africa and globally in order to implement strategic EDP projects
• Proactively managing 'service orientation' to stakeholders, understanding their needs and delivering strategically relevant partnering solutions in line with their requirements
• Demonstrating strong partnering across all stakeholders, through their participation in key initiatives and projects of the EDP
• Establishing the necessary policies, procedures and practices to ensure WCEDP operates ethically and within legislative requirements

Job Requirements

Relevant qualification and experience include:

• Relevant tertiary qualification (Undergraduate Degree) or any equivalent qualification
• Minimum - 4 years of experience in a minimum of 2 different and diverse working contexts, including business, academia, public sector or development sector with strong experience in project implementation and diverse, complex stakeholder management
• Minimum 3 years previous project management experience
• A background in establishing and running learning networks will be advantageous
• Experience in working with issues of sustainability, material flows and natural systems will be advantageous
1 year contract with a possibility of renewal subject to funding and performance
